Elon Healthcare Inclusive Pictures

As my final capstone project for Elon’s Interactive Media Master’s program, I created Elon Healthcare Inclusive Pictures, E.H.I.P., a database of free-use, medically accurate, high quality, and diverse imagery for use by physical therapy educators in their instructional materials. The project involved using my skills in photography, writing, WordPress website development, UX/UI, and graphic design. I completed this project in less than 10 months, with the majority of the work taking place over one spring semester.

In September of 2021, I was alerted to the severe lack of diverse representation in the physical therapy educational field. PT textbooks, presentations, webpages, and other materials are full of images of white people, most often, white men. This lack of representation and inclusivity damages the entire field, and all who are affected by it. Thus, E.H.I.P. was born to help address the lack of imagery available to educators and their students. In order to complete this project, I did extensive research on the topic, compiled a literature review, wrote a proposal and got it approved by the director of iMedia, and created user personas, a user journey map, logo, style guide, and wireframes.
